Grants Philosophy

SKC has a singular vision: To extend life for children with the deadliest forms of childhood cancer today while making survivorship possible for all children by 2015.

SKC strives towards realizing this vision by funding therapeutic development projects in which finding more effective and less toxic new therapies is the only concern. In striving to achieve our goal, SKC:

  • Makes every effort to be an efficient, streamlined, accountable, and goal-oriented organization and asks the same from our partners and investigators
  • Operates as an open source organization where ideas are respected and shared regardless of origin
  • Prioritizes projects that stress efficacy for sick kids
  • Aims to incentivize scientific investigators who might not otherwise have the opportunity to conduct novel research that could help improve survivorship by providing a streamlined, online application process, significant grant award amounts, and accelerated disbursement of funding.

Apply for a Grant

As evident in our vision, SKC values therapeutic development projects that positively impact children today as well as in the future.

Solving Kids’ Cancer accepts proposals for therapeutic development projects in the form of Ideas of Intent for children with neuroblastoma, CNS tumors, or sarcomas.

Apply for a grant

SKC’s review and approval process is as follows:

 Step 1:

Online submission of a detailed proposal or Idea of Intent. This is a high-level description of the therapeutic idea, which will contain:

  • The Proposal Summary and Narrative which should overview preclinical data supporting a study in children, a description of how the proposal is unique from other clinical trials in development, and expected study goals and outcomes.

Step 2:

Upon successful submission, the Idea of Intent will be routed to the SKC TDI Scientific Advisory Board for a first phase review.

Priority will be given to pilot studies, proof-of-principle projects, and early Phase therapeutic initiatives that meet these key criteria:

  • Hold the potential to impact and change the treatment paradigm
  • Are novel and innovative
  • Have a high likelihood of acceptance by parents and patients for timely accrual
  • Are non-duplicative and strategic vis-à-vis the entire pool of clinical trials

The submitter will receive email updates on the status of request. Investigators who submit proposals accepted at this phase will be contacted to provide additional detailed materials specific to the proposed project, such as budgets, NIH format biographical sketches, draft protocols, timelines, milestones, etc.

Step 3:

Based on a review of requested materials, a final approval and funding decision will be made.
