Hosts Dr. Timothy Cripe and Dr. Nilay Shah, from Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, are joined by Dr. Dean Lee to discuss their experience with T-cell CARs (Chimeric Antigen Receptors).  T-cell CARs enable researchers to essentially train one’s immune system to recognize a specific protein that is on a virus or disease.  In the case of CARs, researchers have learned how to “ad on” a receptor that enables T-cells to also recognize very specific proteins found on a particular type of cancer cell.  We have seen incredible results using T-cell CARs in children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and we hope those findings can soon translate into new, effective T-cell CARs that can recognize other types of pediatric cancers, as well.  Listen now to learn more.
