May 8, 2015 — Dr. Timothy Cripe (Nationwide Children’s Hospital), he interviews Dr. Jonathan Finlay (Program Director of Neuro-Oncology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital) about sparked in research interest in brain tumors. One of Dr. Finlay’s mentors, helped launch a new treatment, which was able to rescue a proportion of newly diagnosed children who failed conventional chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. That novel treatment is now a growing method of treating medulloblastoma.

Dr. Hogarty recalls his efforts in finding a new way of tackling neuroblastoma by sending 17,000 tumor samples around the world. In this short interview, he discusses his current work in the lab, which involves testing the MYC gene found in children with high-risk neuroblastoma.

Dr. Shimada developed the Shimada neuroblastoma classification system for neuroblastoma, which was the basis of The International Neuroblastoma Pathology Classification and now The International Neuroblastoma Risk Group classification system.
