ANR Recap: Interview With Dr. Sue Cohn

March 30, 2015 — Host Dr. Nilay Shah (Nationwide Children’s Hospital) interviewed Susan L. Cohn, MD, a Professor of Pediatrics, Dean of Clinical Research at the University of Chicago at the ANR meeting in Cologne, Germany last year. Dr. Cohn is a highly respected expert in pediatric cancers and blood diseases. She is a leading authority on neuroblastoma and actively researching several aspects of neuroblastoma. Her research has received generous support from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Allen, (Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers) about his research in a rare pediatric blood disorder known as Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). Dr. Allen is Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology-Oncology - Baylor College of Medicine, and the Co-Director of the Histiocytosis and Lymphoma Programs at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers. His primary research is focused on the clinical and biological aspects of LCH.

An Interview with Dr. Nancy Ratner

November 14, 2013 — Dr. Ratner speaks with host Dr. Tim Cripe (Nationwide Children's Hospital) and co-host Dr. Robyn Dennis (Nationwide Children's Hospital). Dr. Ratner is interested in understanding mechanisms of peripheral nerve tumor (neurofibroma) formation in Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), a common inherited disorder in which children are predisposed to cancer of the nervous system, to learning problems, bone disorders, and other cancers. She identified EGFR as a potential therapeutic target in NF1 peripheral nerve tumorigenesis and has developed cell culture and mouse models of NF1 nerve tumorigenesis. Her laboratory has also used analysis of gene expression to identify critical genes in neurofibroma and their malignant derivatives, MPNST.

A Discussion with Gavin Lindberg on Effective Advocacy

October 31, 2013 — Mr. Lindberg speaks with host Dr. Tim Cripe and co-host Dr. Robyn Dennis (Nationwide Children’s Hospital), about his work to increase funding for childhood cancer research. Mr. Lindberg is the President and Co-Founder of The Evan’s Victory Against Neuroblastoma (EVAN) Foundation, which was established in memory of his only child Evan Lindberg. Evan bravely battled neuroblastoma for four years before passing away at the age of 7 in 2010. The Foundation funds research aimed at fostering new therapies for children with neuroblastoma and sponsors patient-wellness programs for childhood cancer patients enduring long and difficult stays in the hospital.
